About Us

History.

Since 1969, the Potter family have been involved with construction work throughout Hertfordshire and beyond. The original business, R C Potter Ltd, was set up by Richard and Elizabeth Potter. This firm started off as contract plasterers, then moved into home extensions and conversions. By the 1980's, R C Potter Ltd was primarily constructing new homes for local property developers, either as the main contractor, or as a partner in the development. After the recession in the early 1990's, the business re-organized. Russell Potter joined the firm and concentrated on tendering for commercial projects, larger home extensions/ conversions and individual house construction projects.

After Richard's retirement in 2006, RCP Contractors Ltd was set up to continue the family business, with Tom Potter joining in 2007. RCP Contractors Ltd now acts as a firmly established local contractor, carrying out a mix of residential, commercial and light industrial projects for a broad range of clients.

Who are we?

Our directors are Russell & Tom Potter, both of whom are graduates in construction from Brighton & Nottingham Universities respectively. Together, the directors have over 50 years’ experience in managing construction projects. Both Russell & Tom trained as site managers’ post-graduation, working for national and regional construction companies, such as Balfour Beatty and Wilmot Dixon. The office is managed by Sue Potter, who has over 25 years’ experience in office management and IT systems.

On site we have a mix of directly employed staff and regular trade subcontractors. Our subcontractors and staff are nearly all based in mid-Herts and have worked with us from 5 to 30 years. Our projects are managed in a team environment, with staff and subcontractors all well known to each other. This lends to projects being managed smoothly, efficiently and safely with good communication between the workers on site, the directors and our clients.
